Analyst says next-gen iPad mini won’t have a Retina display

1 hour 21 min ago
Despite numerous reports suggesting Apple’s second-generation iPad mini will ship later this year with a Retina display, one industry watcher believes the Retina-equipped version of Apple’s latest tablet won’t launch until sometime in 2014. According to NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim, Apple’s next iPad mini will use the same display as the current model, though it will feature an upgraded processor and a slimmer design. The analyst also says Apple will launch a new Retina iPad mini in early 2014, though his claims are riddled with holes. First, it seems unlikely that Apple would launch a new iPad mini this fall and then a third-generation model in “early 2014.” Apple has grouped iPad launches closely in the past, but only

"This is a field where one does not write a Principia which holds up for 200 years. ...

Steam to show Microsoft how Xbox One game lending should be done

2 hours 21 min ago
Critics have blasted Microsoft over its used game policy for its Xbox One gaming console. Games are locked to a user’s personal Xbox Live account and require a persistent Internet connection for verification. The company also gave developers the freedom to prevent games from being shared with friends or even sold at certain retailers. In the wake of Microsoft’s bad press, gaming giant Steam appears to be preparing its own lending feature for its popular gaming marketplace. One common complaint about Steam was a user’s inability to share games with friends, but newly discovered code suggests that the company is working on a “Shared Game Library.” A member of the popular gaming forum NeoGAF spotted the line of code, which

"My wife and I should be happy right now, elated to have been married," he told The Guardian's Paul Harris. 3 hours 6 min ago
While Sony’s smartphone business has been struggling for some time now, it is a company known for building HDTVs and mobile devices with stunning displays that are among the best on the market. HTC is struggling as well, but its smartphone hardware is always among the best in the world and that includes its stunning HD displays. With that in mind, it’s quite surprising that up-and-comer Huawei trounced flagship smartphone models from both major brands in DisplayMate’s latest full HD smartphone display shootout, which was published this week. The site says Huawei’s Ascend D2 “delivers superior picture quality with accurate colors and images” compared to the HTC One and Sony Xperia Z, but that’s just a small part of the story.
